In 2013 we launched a brand new House system, the students put forward their ideas for House names and the best ones were voted on. The ‘Bird of Prey’ theme which included Hawk, Eagle, Falcon and Kestrel was the overall winner.

Each house is made up of ten tutor groups spanning from Year 7 – 11 which are overseen by a student House Captain.

The house system allows every student and member of staff to feel a sense of belonging by becoming a member of Hawk, Falcon, Eagle or Kestrel house. By being a member of the house, students and staff are encouraged to show team spirit as all of the houses thrive on the ethos of:

it’s the taking part that counts.

Each student has a house badge on their school tie which they wear with pride that represents the house that they are in.

There are many house events throughout the year from all areas of school life. This blend ensures that everyone has the opportunity to represent their house in something that they enjoy or are good at. For example house events include; various sporting activities, Ready Steady Cook, Spelling Bee and various quizzes throughout the year.  Within PE lessons in Year 7 and 8 students are set in their houses to allow regular inter house competitions.

All students have the opportunity to earn Merits for their house. These are awarded for things such as good work, attendance, for being a good citizen, contribution to lessons and participation in house competitions. At the end of the academic year all house points are added up and one house wins the overall house cup.
