Curriculum

Curriculum Statement 2016-17

At Bridgemary School, we aim to ensure that the curriculum for each year group caters for a range of pathways and suits the needs of all our students. We review the structure and provision of the curriculum each year to enable students to achieve the highest possible standards.

The school has a two week timetable and a three period day consisting of three 100 minute learning experiences

 

The Key Stage 3 curriculum (Years 7, 8 and 9):

· English

· Mathematics

· Science

Students receive 13 lessons of the core English, Maths and  Science per fortnight. The remaining 16 periods are shared between:

· Humanities – History, Geography, RE & Citizenship

· Modern Foreign Language - Spanish

· Physical Education

· Performing Arts – Dance, Drama & Music

· Art & Technology – Art, Technology, Food Technology

The final period fortnight is dedicated to our LEAP (learning enrichment activities programme)

Subjects are organised into a high ability set and all other groups are mixed ability.

 

The Key Stage 4 curriculum (Years 10 and 11):

Core subjects (studied by all students)

· English Language & English Literature

· Mathematics

· Science (Core & Additional, or Triple Science)

· Physical Education

Students have 18 lessons of the core subjects  per fortnight; Maths (5), English (6), Science (4) and Physical Education (2)

 

Option subjects:

Students at Key Stage 4 follow a range of different pathways designed to maximize their potential. The pathways offered include an Ebacc route, a GCSE route and an Alternative pathway. Students have three 100 minute sessions per option subject, each fortnight. Students are advised on the correct balance of subjects to enable them to succeed at Key Stage 4.

 

OPTION SUBJECTS 2016-18

Students can study the following GCSE subjects:

·   Food Technology

·   Geography

·   History

·   ICT

·   Music

·   Philosophy & Ethics

·   Physical Education

·   Resistant Materials

·   Spanish

Students can study the following BTEC Courses:

·   Health & Social Care

·   Sport

 

All students at Bridgemary have access to:

· PSHCE (delivered through tutor time and assembly programme)

· Social, Moral, Spiritual & Cultural Education (SMSC) (delivered across the curriculum, through assemblies and tutor time)

· Careers Education (delivered across the curriculum, through assemblies, withdrawal and tutor time)

Students on the Alternative Curriculum Pathway have access to additional qualifications/opportunities including:

·  Prince’s Trust

·  Pixl Edge

·  Level 1 Vocational Courses at delivered by local colleges
